This holiday season, if you are in the process of ‘rightsizing’ or decluttering your home, consider giving back by donating gently-used and unused items.
A convenient way to donate furniture and give to those in need, while also reducing environmental waste in landfills, is through a furniture bank. Furniture banks accept furniture and household goods to help vulnerable families and individuals.
Moving Station is a proud sponsor of the Chicago Furniture Bank, the recent recipient of a $100,000 grant from the Chicago Bears’ Community All-Pros Initiative. This generous grant was announced at a Bears game this fall:
To find a local furniture bank, visit https://furniturebanks.org/donate-furniture/. Call your local furniture bank to inquire about their donation criteria and if they offer pick-up services.
Another convenient option that also reduces landfill waste is through an online organization, Give Back Box. Give Back Box offers you the opportunity to reuse a pre-paid return label from a participating online retailer to mail your donation for free. Fill a cardboard box with your donation of gently-used clothing and shoes, then print out a pre-paid label for the charity of your choice at http://www.givebackbox.com/index
If you prefer a pick-up service, visit donationtown.org to find a local charity that will come to your home to pick up your donations.
